Safety Guidance for Defence Staff

The minister said that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that safety is a concern in all modern cars.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having discussions at a secret level in any kind of vehicle, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and sensible thing for anyone worried about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”
